Transforming traditional teaching practices by integrating innovative, learner-centred and active methodologies into formal education. The course supports educators in making formal learning more engaging, flexible and responsive to diverse learner needs.


Sending partners

Educational organisations involved in formal, non-formal and informal learning: kindergartens, schools, VET providers, adult education centres, training organisations, resource centres, NGOs and other institutions active in the education and adult learning field, established in Erasmus+ programme countries.


Participants

20–25 adults involved in education.


Course fee

According to the Erasmus+ Programme Guide: 80 EUR per participant per training day, including course preparation, training delivery, training materials, organisational and administrative costs, and 24-hour emergency support during the mobility.


Trainers

A multinational team of trainers from Portugal, Romania, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Poland, experienced in Erasmus+ training and international education, including collaboration with SALTO and training activities delivered in more than 15 European countries.


Languages used

Working language: English.
Training materials are provided in English. Upon request, support or materials may be available in Spanish or French, depending on the group composition.


Profile of the participants

The course is designed for teachers, school staff and adult trainers working in the sending organisation who are interested in modernising their teaching practice within formal education systems.

Participants:

  • Work with learners of different ages, abilities or backgrounds
  • May have previous experience or be beginners in innovative teaching methods
  • Are interested in increasing student engagement, participation and learning outcomes
  • Are willing to actively engage in experiential activities, collaboration and reflection
  • Are open to intercultural learning and exchange of practices
  • Are motivated to implement innovative strategies and to engage in preparatory and follow-up activities
  • Aim to strengthen the European dimension of their institution through pedagogical innovation

Day 1 – Rethinking formal education

  • Introductions, expectations and group-building activities
  • Challenges of traditional teaching: engagement, motivation, diversity
  • Characteristics of effective and learner-centred classrooms
  • Reflection: participants’ current practices and needs
  • Identifying opportunities for change within curriculum constraints

Day 2 – Active learning strategies

  • Cooperative learning structures and classroom interaction techniques
  • Problem-based and inquiry-based learning
  • Energizers and short active methods for formal lessons
  • Designing interactive lesson segments
  • Peer feedback and reflection

Day 3 – Project-based learning and real-world connections

  • Principles of project-based learning
  • Linking curriculum to real-life contexts
  • Developing interdisciplinary learning projects
  • Group work: designing a classroom project
  • Presentation and feedback

Day 4 – Inclusion and differentiation in formal classrooms

  • Differentiation strategies for mixed-ability groups
  • Supporting diverse learning styles and needs
  • Formative assessment and flexible feedback methods
  • Classroom management for active learning environments
  • Reflection circle

Day 5 – Implementation and sustainability

  • Presentation of lesson or project plans
  • Developing personal implementation strategies
